The Blackhawks and Bruins exchanged numerous scoring chances in the first period, but Patrick Kane gave Chicago the 1-0 edge early in Game 5.
Blackhawks vs. Bruins Game 5 update: Kane, Hawks own momentum
Chicago benefited from a broken stick and took a 1-0 lead in Game 5.

After a slow start, the speed picked up as the period wore on, and so did the number of scoring chances. Kane had a great chance in the opening minute but sent the puck well wide of Tuukka Rask. Jaromir Jagr also had a nifty play in the latter half of the frame but couldn’t beat Corey Crawford. In fact, the Bruins had a hard time testing Crawford’s notoriously weak glove. On the other end, Rask had to make a couple of saves off 2-on-1 breakaways.
But the Blackhawks began controlling possession even more, and a broken stick betrayed Rask and the Bruins.
If this game follows the trend of previous games, expect things to really pick up in the second period.
