Kings vs. Blackhawks Game 3 update: Kings escape first with 1-0 lead

Chicago rallied late and limited the first period damage, but still trail heading into the second.

If these playoffs have taught us anything, it's that the Los Angeles Kings are just about unstoppable on home ice. Game 3 has followed that trend so far, as the Chicago Blackhawks trail 1-0 after one period.

The Kings wasted no time getting on the board first. Justin Williams had the shift of his life just three minutes in, stick-handling through Hawks defenders as he entered the zone to allow his teammates to follow. Seconds later, he scored his sixth goal of the playoffs.

Williams got another chance a few moments later when Michal Rozsival slipped on a banana peel in the corner.

The Blackhawks didn't get a shot on goal until eight minutes passed, but by the end of the period they had nearly matched the Kings shot for shot. Their late-period surge was almost in vain, though, but luckily Drew Doughty's shot in the final minute rattled off the post, and Chicago avoided a two-goal deficit.
