The Carolina Hurricanes have signed their first round pick Elias Lindholm to a three-year entry level contract. Lindholm, the fifth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, will be paid $832,500 in the NHL or $70,000 in the AHL for all three years to go along with a $277,500 signing bonus.

Lindholm is a versatile forward who can play all three positions, although general manager Jim Rutherford said that he prefers to play center. The 18-year-old scored 11 goals and added 19 assists in 48 games for Brynas in the Swedish Elite League last season. He was an Elite League rookie of the year finalist and led all junior-aged players in scoring before helping Sweden to the silver medal at the World Junior Championships.
Heading into the draft, the Hurricanes were rumored to be intent on trading the No. 5 pick, but they ended up keeping it to select Lindholm. The concern with Lindholm is that he is a little undersized for a center, but he is an outstanding skater and showed in the Swedish Elite League that he could play tough enough to withstand the physical play of players much older than he is.
