The Anaheim Ducks have signed left-winger Dustin Penner to a one-year contract, the team announced on Tuesday. The signing will mark Penner's return to the team he began his NHL career with in 2005.

The 30-year-old Penner signed with the Ducks in 2004 and played for Anaheim during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, the latter of which he won the Stanley Cup with in 2007. He went on to play for Edmonton and Los Angeles after leaving the Ducks, eventually playing in 522 games while racking up 137 goals and 275 points.
Penner had one of the best seasons of his career during his first stint with the Ducks, scoring 29 goals and tallying 45 points during the 2006-07 season. He was second on the team in goals that season while setting the franchise’s rookie records for points, goals, power play goals and games played.
Penner’s production has dropped off in recent seasons, however, as he scored just two goals while appearing in 33 games last year. He finished the year with 14 points, the lowest total since the 2005-06 season when he tallied seven points in 19 games.
