Anaheim Ducks defenseman Sheldon Souray has torn a ligament in his right wrist and is expected to miss four-to-six months, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheldon Souray will be missing a considerable amount of time after undergoing surgery on his wrist. With space open on the blue line, the Anaheim Ducks have come to terms on an agreement with Mark Fistric.

Souray sustained the injury while participating in an off-ice workout on July 17. He underwent surgery nine days later at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles on July 25. Dr. Steven Shin oversaw the procedure, which apparently was completed without complication. Souray’s timetable is relative to the completion of the surgery.
The 37-year-old defenseman is entering the second-year of a three-year, $11 million contract that carries an annual average value of $3.6 million against the salary cap, according to CapGeek.com. The Ducks will place Souray on long-term injured reserve in order to create cap flexibility while he’s out.
With Souray out of commission for sometime, the Ducks simultaneously announced that the club has come to terms on a contract with unrestricted free agent defenseman Mark Fistric. The two sides agreed on a one-year, $900,000 deal, according to Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times.
Fistric spent the 2013 season with the Edmonton Oilers, appearing in 25 games and accumulating an average ice time of 15:20.
