Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich told reporters that he will be available to play against the Chicago Blackhawks in Tuesday night's season opener.
Brooks Laich injury: Capitals F expects to play against Blackhawks
Despite all his injury issues, Brooks Laich believes he will be ready to go for the Capitals season opener on Tuesday.
Laich has missed time due to a hip flexor issue that limited his preseason activity to a single exhibition game. The player sat out Washington’s final preseason contest this past Saturday against Chicago as a precautionary measure.
Laich stated on Saturday that he likely would have played had it been a regular season contest and that the extra time off would allow him to prepare for opening night, via the Washington Post:
“It’s a lot better today, I’m really really close,” Laich said. “This way, I’ve got three more days to prepare for Tuesday. I’ll get some rest tomorrow, get a good hard practice in Monday, and be ready to go Tuesday.”
Injuries have plagued Laich over the last year, as he missed all but nine games in 2013 due to a groin issue. This season started off in a similar fashion as he sustained his hip flexor injury in the opening minutes of training camp.
Head coach Adam Oates previously stated that Laich would play on a line with Mikhail Grabovski and Troy Brouwer.
