Chad Johnson takes stick to face, bleeds from eye

This is not supposed to happen to goalies. This is what masks are for.

In hindsight, it was pretty ridiculous that goalies played without any sort of protection on their face for as long as they did. The goalie mask It’s such a common sense piece of equipment that no sane person in the modern day game would ever dream of going without it. You would have to be a complete lunatic to even think about it.

But even the goalie mask can't protect goalies from everything, as Bruins goalie Chad Johnson found out on Thursday when a stick made its way through the cage and poked him in the eye.

And the gruesome aftermath…

No. No that is not supposed to happen.

Johnson remained in the game.
