James Guillory-USA TODAY SportsThe team announced on Monday evening that it has signed the veteran center to a four-year contract that will pay him $3.125 million per season. That cap hit is actually a decrease from his current deal, a contract that expires after this season, that pays him $3.5 million per year.
His offensive production has declined in recent years and is currently at the level you might expect from a third-line forward. He hasn’t scored more than 10 goals in a season since 2009-10, and has topped 30 points just once over that period. What he does do for the Flames is handle a lot of tough minutes and take on a mostly defensive role.
