The Detroit Red Wings have been pretty lousy in the shootout this season, but their luck changed a little bit on Wednesday night when they knocked off the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-4, in a wildly entertaining game that needed a six-round shootout to decide a winner.
Jonas Gustavsson has to make two saves on Patrick Kane in the shootout
Jonas Gustavsson’s work wasn’t finished when he made the initial save on Patrick Kane’s shootout attempt.

The save of the night came in the third round when Patrick Kane, with a chance to win the game for Chicago, was stopped by Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson. Twice.
After stopping the initial shot, the puck was starting to roll across the goal line when Gustavsson, while falling backwards and trying to recover after the initial save, had to make a kick save to keep the puck out of the net. It was a tremendous display of athleticism and helped the Red Wings earn an additional point in the standings.
And yes, if the puck would have rolled across the line there it would have counted and the Blackhawks would have won.
