Ovi’s assist on Nicklas Backstrom’s goal broke a long-standing record in Washington.

The inevitable record breaking tally came in the first period against the Calgary Flames when Ovechkin's pass was tipped in the net by linemate Nicklas Backstrom to tie the game at 1-1. It was Ovechkin's 826th career point in his 691st game. For comparison's sake, it took Bondra 961 games to reach the previous record.
So it was only fitting that Bondra was there to watch his record break in person.
