Alex Ovechkin becomes Capitals’ all-time points leader

Ovi’s assist on Nicklas Backstrom’s goal broke a long-standing record in Washington.

Alex Ovechkin added yet another important mark on his Hall of Fame resume on Tuesday, passing Peter Bondra to become the Washington Capitals' all-time points leader.

The inevitable record breaking tally came in the first period against the Calgary Flames when Ovechkin's pass was tipped in the net by linemate Nicklas Backstrom to tie the game at 1-1. It was Ovechkin's 826th career point in his 691st game. For comparison's sake, it took Bondra 961 games to reach the previous record.

So it was only fitting that Bondra was there to watch his record break in person.
