Montreal faced an uphill battle on Wednesday in Minnesota. Whether the death of franchise legend Jean Beliveau affected their performance is up for debate, but they didn’t do themselves many favors by getting outshot, 30-10, through two periods.
Nobody knows if Jason Pominville actually scored
Did the referees get the call right? Even they don’t know!

But did the referees slight them as well? A Jason Pominville goal in the second period was reviewed at length to see whether his stick was above the crossbar when he deflected the puck past goalie Carey Price.
No matter which angle you looked at it from, it was hard to be 100 percent certain about the call. According to the league, that was apparently the deciding factor in why the referees ultimately let the goal stand:
Video review was inconclusive in determining whether Jason Pominville's stick was at or below the level of the crossbar when he deflected the puck into the net. Therefore the referee's call on the ice stands - good goal Minnesota
So basically the referees, are about as sure as the rest of us when they saw the replay. Whether Pominville’s goal should’ve counted will forever remain a mystery.
