Wild announcer Mike Greenlay takes stick to the face between the benches

Announcing games between the benches is dangerous.

Placing an announcer between the benches is a relatively new phenomenon in hockey, and while it has the potential to bring a unique perspective, it also has the potential to be pretty dangerous. Earlier this season we saw Buffalo Sabres play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret taking some precautionary measures by wearing a helmet when he called a game from ice level.

On Thursday, Minnesota’s Mike Greenlay could have used something similar when he was on the receiving end of a high-stick to the face, apparently from Matt Cooke, that left him (and his shirt) a little bloodied.

Greenlay stayed in the game and appears healthy.
