Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings: Morgan Rielly assists Joffrey Lupul goal from his stomach

This is why upper-body strength is important.

Abelimages

The Toronto Maple Leafs are careening out of the playoff race, and for awhile on Saturday night it looked like their slide would continue. Luckily for them, a rookie defenseman helped try to bail them out.

The Detroit Red Wings had opened up a 3-1 lead in the second period when Leafs rookie Morgan Rielly sped down the ice with the puck into the Wings' zone. He managed to get by one defenseman but lost his balance. Scoring chance dead, right?

Wrong.

That was Joffrey Lupul on the finishing end of a belly flop pass from Rielly. Say what you want about his defensive game, but that kid can fly.
