NHL Sunday: 300 wins for King Henrik

The season has five weeks left, and teams will continue to jockey for position in both conferences. But for the Bruins and Blues, their ascension on Sunday was merely the inevitable result of an impressive last few months.

They had to work for it. After jumping out to a two goal lead, the Blues tied the game and eventually prevailed in the shootout. The win helped St. Louis distance itself from the likes of San Jose and Los Angeles.

Now, by definition, a sucker punch refers to hitting someone without warning. I’d say what Nolan did next to Joensuu fits nicely under that definition.

Yeesh. Nolan obviously got sent to the sin bin for that one. Even Kings fans thought it was an incredibly dumb thing to do.

That doesn’t look good at all. Gudbranson limped off to the locker room and hasn’t come back out since. You’d have to imagine he’s done for the game. Gudbranson is minus-7 with nine points in 55 games this season.

Not sure how the Panthers didn’t scrap this idea, but I guess they had to get rid of those bobbleheads somehow. They made up for it by giving away Roberto Luongo posters, so good for them.

But the Dallas Stars couldn’t leave this alone.The NHL’s resident Twitter snark masters took aim at the Panthers after the debacle.

Ouch. Pirri was okay, but he’ll probably keep his head on a swivel from now on when Miller is on the ice.

The odds seem to favor St. Louis when they visit Minnesota on Sunday. St. Louis is 17-0-1 against their Central Division-mates this season and have shown no signs of letting up. Another win and the Blues would claim the top spot in the Western Conference.
