Mike Rupp ejected for hitting T.J. Oshie in head

Mike Rupp’s agent wanted him to play more so he could protect his teammates against dirty hits. Then Rupp delivered one of his own.

It looks as if the NHL’s department of player safety is going to have a busy day on Friday.

Not long after Montreal's Douglas Murray Murray was thrown out of the Canadiens-Islanders game for an illegal hit from behind, Minnesota's Mike Rupp earned a similar punishment when he was given a match penalty for this nasty hit to the head of St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie.

That’s not good. Even worse? Just one week ago Rupp’s agent, Allan Walsh, was on Twitter saying this in support of his client:

And then there was this one before the game on Thursday when Rupp was finally put into the lineup.

That’s the thing about guys that play the role of “deterrent.” They usually cause just as much violence (if not more) than they actually deter.
