A scary scene unfolded in Vancouver on Sunday night, as Canucks forward Daniel Sedin was carried off the ice on a stretcher after taking a hit from Calgary Flames forward Paul Byron.

Sedin laid on the ice for several minutes before being carried off.

The incident occurred in the second period with about three minutes left. As Sedin chased the puck towards the corner boards, Byron laid a hit on him and Sedin’s head crashed hard into the glass.
Sedin lay on the ice for several minutes before medical staff was able to carry him off. Byron was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. The hit didn’t appear to be malicious, but it will certainly be reviewed by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
This is the final game of the season for both the Flames and the Canucks.
