Jonas Gustavsson starts Game 4 for Red Wings, Jimmy Howard out with flu

Henrik Zetterberg is back for the Detroit Red Wings, but starting goaltender Jimmy Howard is out.

The Detroit Red Wings are getting their captain, Henrik Zetterberg, back for Game 4 of their first round Eastern Conference playoff matchup against the Boston Bruins, which is a pretty big deal. Amazingly, that news seemed to get lost right around faceoff when it was announced that Jonas Gustavsson, not Jimmy Howard, would be starting in goal.

Howard is not available to start after coming down with the flu.

Gustavsson appeared in 27 games for the Red Wings this season and posted a .907 save percentage to go with a 16-5-4 record.

Howard has been outstanding over the first three games of the series, recording a shutout in Detroit’s 1-0 win in Boston in Game 1 and then stopping 31 of 33 shots in Game 3, at least keeping it close for the Red Wings as they were badly outplayed by the Bruins.

For Gustavsson, this will be his first NHL playoff appearance.
