After getting sent to the sin bin for charging, interference and tripping earlier in the game, Rinaldo was given a match penalty in the third period when he collided with Buffalo Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel. The hit was rather egregious:
Ruhwedal left for the dressing room after the hit. The referees initially sent Rinaldo to the penalty box, but then they probably changed their minds after they saw this replay angle:
That little lunge into Ruhwedel was enough to get Rinaldo sent to the showers early, and will probably earn him a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety.
