If NHL players aren’t hitting each other in the groin this postseason, they’re spraying each other with water bottles.
The latest incident came in the second period of New York's 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night when Henrik Lundqvist emptied his water bottle on Sidney Crosby during a skirmish.
On Monday, the NHL responded by fining Lundqvist $5,000 for what it called "unsportsmanlike conduct." The fine is actually double what Boston's Shawn Thornton received for doing the same thing to P.K. Subban during a play on Saturday. Thornton was fined the maximum allowed given his salary under the current CBA.
The Lundqvist-Crosby incident started after Crosby speared Dominic Moore, a play that is expected to result in no punishment from the league.
