Rangers and Canadiens exchange own goals late in Game 3
The Rangers and Canadiens couldn’t beat the opposing goalies, so they decided to score on their own.
Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t. If you’re lucky, it will balance out at some point. It just doesn’t always happen this quickly.
With less than three minutes to play in the third period in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens, who had been carried by the stellar play of backup goalie Dustin Tokarski for most of the night, managed to take a 2-1 lead when Danny Briere was credited with his third goal of the season thanks to Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh accidentally kicking the puck into his own net.
That’s actually the second time this postseason that Briere has scored because a defenseman put the puck in his own net. Sometimes “clutch” requires a little bit of luck.
And speaking of luck, with just 28 seconds to play in regulation the Rangers managed to send the game to overtime when Montreal's Alexei Emelin suffered the same bad break that McDonagh experienced at the other end of the ice and accidentally kicked a Chris Kreider centering pass into the net behind Tokarski.
What a weird sequence. What a weird game.
