Dustin Tokarski isn't enough (on multiple levels)
We wrote on Friday that the Canadiens' netminder gives Montreal a fighting chance in this series. On one hand, that's still true. Tokarski made a couple of brilliant saves in big spots again in Game 4 to keep Montreal within striking distance. But his inexperience showed at times, especially when he would overcommit to a shot and get pulled way out of position. That happened multiple times. And for all the excellent saves he's capable of making, the Canadiens continued to leave him hanging time and time again. Tokarski can't save the Canadiens by himself. -
Martin St. Louis is a man on a mission
The veteran winger has not been the same since his mother died, looking like a massive fire has been lit under him in the last two weeks. He tallied seven points, four goals and 20 shots in his last six playoff games and is a threat to score every time the puck touches his stick. His determination is on another level right now. Tokarski had his number on numerous occasions in Game 4, but St. Louis wouldn't be denied again on the game-winner in overtime. We all knew St. Louis wanted to play in New York for a Stanley Cup, but we didn't know just how bad he wanted it. We're finding out right now. -
Only their power play can save the Habs
New York took seven offensive zone penalties in Game 4. That's an inexcusable stat, but even more perplexing is how Montreal failed to convert on any of them. The Canadiens are now 1-for-17 on the power play in the series, a stat that underlies how they've let this series slip away right out from under them. If the Kings can rally from a 3-0 hole against San Jose, then Montreal can erase a two-game deficit in this series. But that won't happen if Michel Therrien's coaching staff doesn't figure out a power play plan that works immediately.
