NHL Draft 2014: St. Louis Blues select Robby Fabbri with No. 21 overall pick

Fabbri, 18, is a left-handed shooting center who has spent the last two seasons playing with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. In 117 games in the OHL, Fabbri has accumulated 120 points with the majority of that total being registered during his 87-point year in 2013-14 (45 goals and 42 assists). The impressive showing marked a breakout year, which saw Fabbri dramatically jump from his 33 point total in 2012-13 (10 goals and 23 assists).

The increased offensive output helped raise the Mississauga-native’s draft profile, which catapulted him from a mid-second round ranking by the ISS at the start of the season. He finished the year as the eighth-ranked North American skater in the ISS year-end report.

Listed at 5’10, 165 pounds, Fabbri’s diminutive size is a point of emphasis, but his abilities with the puck and his high compete level are more prominently featured in the ISS’ evaluation of the player:

After scoring 45 goals in the regular season, Fabbri has shown consistent production on the score sheet. What separates him from other smaller skilled players is his compete level and pace of play. He is usually the first one on the puck and works in all three zones. He needs to keep his composure better at times but ISS scouts love the edge he shows.

He played on Canada’s U17 World Hockey Championship team (three goals and an assist in five games) and dressed for the Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2013-14 (an assist in five games).
