NHL schedule 2015: Maple Leafs begin new era against Capitals

Toronto will play its first game on Wednesday since firing coach Randy Carlyle.

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The post-Randy Carlyle era begins in earnest on Wednesday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will hit the ice for the first time since their coach got fired this week when they host the Washington Capitals at the Air Canada Centre. Maple Leafs players like Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf have, fairly or not, taken a bit of a bashing in the media since Carlyle's departure for their effort on the ice. How they respond will certainly be something worth watching.

Later on, the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins will get the national TV treatment when they square off at Consol Energy Center at 8 p.m. ET. The Penguins expect to get defenseman Paul Martin back from an injury that has kept him out for a month.

Rounding out the evening are the New York Rangers visiting the Anaheim Ducks. The Rangers prepared for the game by riding merry-go-rounds. We'll see how that affects Anaheim's gameplan.

Here is the full schedule for Wednesday. All times are Eastern.
