The Columbus Blue Jackets were 0-3 on the year heading into their game against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. A lot of that had to do with their lackadaisical play in their own zone to start the year, but there was nothing they could've done to prevent the Senators from tying the game in the second period.

Columbus tried to break the puck out of the defensive zone midway through the period, but the Senators forced a turnover. Senators forward Mark Stone got a Jackets defender to chase him behind the net before slipping a no-look pass behind him to a waiting Kyle Turris. And he buried it.

It was plays like this that made Mark Stone a surprise Calder Trophy nominee as one of the league’s best rookies last season, registering 26 goals and 64 points in his first season in the NHL. So far it looks like he isn’t plagued by any sophomore slump.
