Blue Jackets fall down comically to allow easy Senators goal

Columbus is in a bad way right now.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Columbus Blue Jackets may have gotten out to an 0-3 start, but even then it wasn't time to hit the panic button. It wasn't even time to panic when the Ottawa Senators roared back for a 4-3 lead on Wednesday night thanks to some poor defending by Columbus.

But when they took a 5-3 lead? Maybe it’s time to let some of that worrying seep in, Blue Jackets fans. Because the way Columbus allowed the fifth goal was shockingly bad for Blue Jackets fans and somewhat comical for everyone else.

The Blue Jackets turned over the puck at neutral ice midway through the third period, and somehow winger Scott Hartnell was left to try and defend the incoming rush into his team's defensive zone. And then he just wasn't there anymore.

Oof. The Senators scored again a few minutes later to make it 6-3 for good measure. Something tells us coach Todd Richards’ seat in Columbus got warmer after Wednesday’s debacle.
