Northeastern goalie makes ridiculous save of the year candidate

HOW.

The best save in hockey this season might end up coming from the college ranks.

Northeastern University goalie Ryan Ruck offered up a gem on Friday while his team was trailing the Minnesota Golden Gophers by three goals. The Golden Gophers looked like they had the Northeastern backup goalie beat with a cross-ice pass through an empty crease that left a gaping hole in Ruck’s right half of the net.

But Ruck stopped it. And he didn’t do it with his stick or even his blocker pad. He just swatted it away with his HAND.

How he had the wherewithal to drop his stick because it would be useless for any save attempt is beyond me. The game was stopped to review the tape in order to confirm the puck didn’t cross the goal line, but the save was ultimately upheld. It will probably hold on as the best save of the year in any league, anywhere. It’s that good.
