Ducks goalie stretches out for miraculous stick save against Wild

Dumba was dumbfounded.

John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday we declared Northeastern goalie Ryan Ruck had the claim on the best save of the hockey year so far. It didn’t take even 24 hours before someone in the NHL challenged his title.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Mathew Dumba already scored once on the Anaheim Ducks in the first period on Saturday but looked certain to score another when a puck bounced to his stick with the net wide open. Then goalie Frederik Andersen's stick appeared out of nowhere and deflected the puck.

The most amazing thing about this play is that his stick was in position to block the shot almost a full second before Dumba even released the puck. That’s Jedi stuff. I think we’ve confirmed Frederik Andersen can tap into the Force. The NHL should check his midi-chlorian levels after the game to make sure they’re not above the acceptable standards.
