Islanders’ Frans Nielsen goes end-to-end to score against Hurricanes

New York’s underrated center keeps producing.

John Tavares might get the headlines on Long Island, but the Islanders' second line center isn't anything to scoff at either.

Frans Nielsen's excellent start to the season continued on Thursday with one of the better goals of his career. With the game tied at 1-1 in the second period, the Islanders center picked up the puck in his own zone and quickly carved through the Carolina Hurricanes defenders straight to the net for a score.

That kind of defending is why the Hurricanes only have three wins this year. It’s also a testament to the season Nielsen is having. That was Nielsen’s fourth goal and ninth point in 10 games so far, meaning he’s on pace to far exceed his 14 goals and 49 points of a year ago.
