When their sticks get hacked out of their hands, hockey players will do one of two things. They’ll either quickly skate to the bench to retrieve another one, or they’ll throw their hands in the air and beg the referee for a penalty. Both happen so often they’ve become cliche.
Claude Giroux tackled a Sabres player who hacked his stick
Hockey!

Thankfully we have Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux to mix things up a little bit. When Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly chopped his stick away from him on Friday, Giroux didn't act offended. He just tackled him.
Now that’s a little more interesting. Both players got sent to the penalty box for the incident, but it’s fairly clear who won that duel. Giroux already has 10 penalty minutes this year, well on pace to exceed his 36 minutes last season.
