There are plenty of things to take away from 3-on-3 overtime in the NHL so far this season. One of them is that gaining separation for an open shot in the offensive zone is harder to do than you’d expect.

Evgeny Kuznetsov completely bucked that trend on Saturday in Florida. In the waning minutes of overtime, Kuznetsov circled the top of the zone with the puck, before throwing a shoulder fake that fooled the Panthers into thinking it was a pass. From there it was just a quick turn, shot and a goal to end the game.
