Rangers score on Maple Leafs on a long shot from center ice

Jonathan Bernier would like this one back.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

If the Maple Leafs hadn't run out of water bottles to throw, the ice at Madison Square Garden would be littered with them after the second goal they gave up on Sunday.

Jonathan Bernier returned to the Maple Leafs' net after missing some time with a lower-body injury, and his rust showed in a bad way. The Rangers were simply trying to dump in the puck from center ice when it somehow slipped by Bernier from about fifty feet.

That must be the easier goal of Derek Stepan’s career. And it’s a pretty terrible way to give up the lead on the road. It also sums up the Leafs season, as they sit in last place in the Atlantic with a 5-8-4 record.
