A top-four defenseman is on the trade market, as the New York Islanders are reportedly actively looking to deal defenseman Travis Hamonic.
Travis Hamonic wants a trade from Islanders due to ‘family concerns’
New York is looking to deal him to a Western Canada team.

According to SportsNet reporter Elliotte Friedman, there’s no indication Hamonic is upset with his situation in New York. Rather, he’s seeking a departure due to personal reasons and requested trade negotiations begin well before this season.
Those “family concerns” mean he’s only willing to move to West Canada, narrowing the maneuverability for Islanders general manager Garth Snow quite a bit.
Hamonic loves the Isles. This is personal. Wpg, Edmtn, Cgy and Van all preferred. Might expand to other west cities. Tough on Isles....
— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) November 18, 2015 It’s tough because Hamonic is an excellent top-four defenseman whom New York would certainly like to keep. He is only 25 years old, plays tough minutes and is the right-handed shot from the blueline most teams covet. His salary is affordable as well; Hamonic will make between $3.75 million to $4.875 million each year for the next five seasons.
It’s for those reasons that the Islanders will demand a significant return for him.
Said one NHL team exec regarding Isles GM Garth Snow and a Hamonic deal: ``He is not giving him away.'' Nor should he for a top-4 D
— Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) November 18, 2015 Friedman reports that Snow isn’t looking for draft picks or prospects, but an “equal-level replacement” for Hamonic in any deal.
