It took awhile, but Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin finally broke the NHL record he'd been charging towards his entire career.
Alex Ovechkin breaks Sergei Fedorov’s record for most goals by a Russian player
Ovechkin is now the greatest Russian scorer in NHL history.

By scoring his 484th career goal in the third period on Thursday against the Dallas Stars, Ovechkin became the greatest Russian-born goal scorer in NHL history. The goal broke former Detroit Red Wings and Hockey Hall of Famer Sergei Fedorov's record, which he had tied back on Nov. 7.
Fedorov and Ovechkin were teammates through the 2008-09 season.
Although he had to wait four games between tying the record and breaking it, Ovechkin’s timing couldn’t have been better. The goal came in the third period and tied the game against the Western Conference-leading Dallas Stars.

— Stephanie (@myregularface) November 20, 2015 Since joining the NHL ranks in 2005, no player has more goals than Ovechkin. The Capitals captain reached 483 goals in 772 games. By comparison, Fedorov reached that mark in 1,248 NHL games, 476 more games than Ovechkin.
Nicklas Backstrom assisted on Ovechkin’s goal, which resulted in an amazing stat.
Chants of "Ovi" ringing out. Backstrom also assisted on Fedorov's record-breaking goal. Also against Dallas. lolz.
