NHL scores 2015: Frustration settles in for Nashville with 3-0 loss to New York

The Predators are now in the midst of a franchise-high goalless streak.

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The last time the Nashville Predators scored was last Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks. Miikka Salomaki had Nashville's final goal six minutes into the second period of that contest and it has been 213 minutes and 47 seconds since the Predators last lit the lamp, the longest shutout streak in franchise history by over 40 minutes.

It's been four games since the Predators had a goal and frustration has clearly set in for Nashville. It's not hard to see why, especially coming off their latest loss, a 3-0 shutout at the hands of New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Nashville was dominant in the shot count through two of the three periods in Monday's game. The Rangers had a combined seven shots on goal in the first two frames compared to the Predators' 25. New York was able to capitalize on one of its four shots in the second period, however, resulting in a Rick Nash goal four minutes into the middle frame.

The Predators eventually outshot the Rangers 31-19 over the regulation loss, with New York also blocking 26 additional Nashville shot attempts. Nothing is going right for Nashville and that frustration boiled over into six penalties in the third period alone for 20 penalty minutes on the night. Mike Ribeiro earned a 10-minute game misconduct penalty in the dying moments of the game, his second penalty of the sort in as many games. The penalty was assessed for complaining after a missed call, a sure sign that Ribeiro -- and much of the team -- were letting emotions rule the game.

This slip by Nashville has come at the worst time. In a division of death that is the Central, the Predators could not afford to go on the bad kind of shutout streak. Already, their three-game losing streak has dropped them in the middle of the division, putting them behind the Minnesota Wild in fourth place though both are tied in points with 25. It's certainly not the start to a five-game road trip that head coach Peter Laviolette wanted, especially with the always tricky Buffalo Sabres and the surging Philadelphia Flyers on the horizon this week.

A shakeup in lines is probably Nashville's next step to get out of this scoring funk. There's talent in the roster for sure, and once calmer heads prevail, hopefully the Predators can snap out of their historic goalless streak before it drops them further out of the top of the Central.

3 things we learned

1. Philadelphia broke its own scoreless streak

The Flyers were also suffering a goalless streak through 2 1/2 games until Brayden Schenn broke open a scoreless game against the Carolina Hurricanes halfway through the contest. Philadelphia's streak capped out at 167:54, the third longest in franchise history. The Flyers almost squandered a two-goal lead to the Hurricanes, but managed to pull out a victory in overtime on Shayne Gostisbehere's second goal of the year.

2. ZAC RINALDO GOAL

Poor Toronto allowed Zac Rinaldo to get his first goal of the season in a Bruins sweater on them in a 4-3 shootout loss. Oh Leafs, never change.

3. Landon Ferraro got interviewed by his dad after registering a point in first game with Boston

Ray Ferraro works for TSN as a game analyst and had the chance to interview his son, Landon, after he notched his first point as a Bruin. The younger Ferraro was claimed off waivers by Boston over the weekend after being made available by the Red Wings. Originally, the call was a goal to Ferraro but it was changed in the intermission to Brad Marchand's tally. Adorable moment all around.

Impact Moment

Dmitry Orlov got the game winner for Washington as he broke a scoreless tie late in the third period for the Capitals, who beat the Oilers 1-0 on his tally.

Stat of the Night

It’s all coming up New York, especially at Madison Square Garden.

Post to Post

Braden Holtby kept his shutout alive with this stretch and glove snag on an Oilers odd man rush.
