Tensions were already at a boiling point between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins on Friday before Brad Marchand escalated things even more in the third period.
Brad Marchand strafes Henrik Lundqvist with a knee to the head
This didn’t help tensions one bit.

Late in the second period, the Rangers were upset when Bruins forward Matt Beleskey injured Rangers forward Derek Stepan with a late hit that went uncalled. The two sides had intermission to calm things down, but Marchand quickly ramped things back up early in the third.
Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist had just stopped play with a save when Marchand came in late and strafed Lundqvist with an knee to the head.

Sneaky! But illegal. Lundqvist embellished a bit there, but he probably had the right to. This time the refs caught the Bruins red-handed and sent Marchand to the penalty box with an interference minor.
For what it’s worth, both Marchand and Bruins coach Claude Julien thought Lundqvist’s embellishment was the greater crime. Marchand told NBC’s Pierre McGuire that it “looked like he got shot”, and Julien added an even deeper burn in his postgame presser.
Julien on Hank: "I know he does some acting on the side, but it doesn't need to be on the ice." #Bruins
