Sidney Crosby takes cross-check to the head from Brandon Dubinsky

A very unnecessary shot caused distress for Pittsburgh.

Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

A game after Sidney Crosby asserted his dominance with a multi-goal performance, the Penguins captain was taken down by an unnecessary cross-check from Brandon Dubinsky. The hit is a reckless one, as the Blue Jackets forward took his stick to the back of Crosby's net as the pair were jostling for position in front of the net.

Dubinsky was given just a two-minute penalty for the cross-check, to the dismay of many who believed the play to be worse than a standard minor. It's a vicious hit and a careless one, though Dubinsky was not looking at Crosby at the time of the check so who knows if it's completely malicious. Dubinsky did give Crosby another shot after he was down on the ice, adding insult to injury for the Penguins.

Crosby went off to the dressing room after the hit but did return to start the third period against Columbus.

UPDATE: Dubinsky will get a hearing from Player Safety due to the nature of the hit.
