NHL scores 2015: Tyler Seguin runs riot in Boston, Connor McDavid injury casts pall over Edmonton

Seguin got the last laugh while the Oilers got only tears.

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Tyler Seguin had himself a night.

It seems like his linemate has been getting most of the praise lately. That's unsurprising considering Jamie Benn is the reigning Art Ross winner and entered Tuesday night leading the league in points and goals. Seguin followed right behind, however, thanks to a high assist total. But with an absurdly low shooting percentage, it seemed a matter of time that Tyler Seguin The Goal Scorer would eclipse Tyler Seguin The Setup Man.

It happened sooner rather than later. With his team coming off a disappointing 4-1 upset in Toronto the previous night, Seguin played the kind of game elite NHL players should in Boston. The first two goals were laser beams that left goalie Tuukka Rask grasping at vapor trails. The third came off a cross-ice feed through the Bruins' defense that turned out to be the game-winner for Dallas.

Three goals on six shots. That they came against Boston is as appropriate as it must be excruciating for Bruins fans. Here is the former future of your franchise, discarded for underwhelming returns, emphatically showing you what you’re missing in your own barn. That’s a raw deal for any fan.

As for Stars fans? He’s making them weep with joy.

Islanders 2, Devils 1

Senators 2, Canadiens 1 (OT)

Kings 3, Blues 0

Oilers 4, Flyers 2

Blue Jackets 5, Sharks 2

3 things we learned

1. Marc Staal is a liar

Alex Ovechkin was incensed in the second period when the New York Rangers defenseman speared him in the groin. Afterwards, Staal claimed that Ovechkin skated into his stick and he never moved it.

Okay, Marc. Sure. Whatever you say.

2. Mike Condon continues to look good for Montreal

Losing Carey Price for a week had to unsettle most Habs fans, but Mike Condon has proved up to the task in his stead so far. Ottawa might have handed him his first loss in five starts, but it only managed one goal in regulation. Condon has one of the best goals against average (1.60) and save percentages (.941) in the league.

3. Tampa Bay is quietly playing poorly

So ... has anyone else noticed the Lightning are out of sorts? Without any headlines, Tampa Bay has lost six of its last nine games and only four points separate it from seventh in the Atlantic. They even split up the Triplets Line of Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov after it put up three even-strength points in 13 games. And yet the team failed to score multiple goals for the fifth time in six games Tuesday. This is not the dynamic Lightning offense we were expecting.

Impact Moment

There’s no other way to put it: Connor McDavid’s injury is a massive fist right to the solar plexus of the league. The Oilers put him on long-term injury reserve, and coach Todd McLellan was not optimistic about his recovery time. All because McDavid lost an edge.

Rookie of the Night

Guess what? It's Dylan Larkin again. Detroit's young center scored twice, including the game winner, to put away the Lightning. Although he did have to wrestle with Steven Stamkos at one point.

Stat of the Night

Time to put the Taylor Hall vs. Tyler Seguin debate to bed:
