A fan campaign to make Coyotes enforcer John Scott an NHL All-Star Game captain is actually working

Bits are fun!

When it comes to voting, NHL fans sure do like their bits.

Voting for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game is underway, and fans can currently vote for the captain of each division team. NHL.com’s voting module comes with a neat feature this year: fans can see which players are trending the highest in vote totals.

And it appears one odd campaign is working. See if you can spot the outlier.

Yes. Holding down the top ranking is John Scott, noted enforcer and bad hockey player for the Arizona Coyotes. Thanks to the Twitter hashtag #VoteJohnScott, which emerged soon after voting opened on Tuesday, other NHL stars can prepare for sucker punches and ugly hits during the All-Star Game.

Scott has played in six games this season. He has one point and 18 penalty minutes.

It literally took mere hours before NHL fans turned the All-Star vote into a gigantic, fun bit. This isn't unprecedented. Fans once launched a near-successful campaign to make then-Nashville Predators spare part Brandon Yip the cover athlete on EA Sports' NHL 14.

At one point on Tuesday night, fellow enforcers Zac Rinaldo and David Clarkson were leading the fan vote as well. Hockey fans are the best.
