Morning Skate: Let’s all welcome the Panthers back to first place

It’s been so long! (Not.)

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

You love hockey. You love SB Nation. You love reading hockey at SB Nation. Search your feelings. You know these things are true. But life’s too busy to browse the whole network for news. So we’ll send hockey news to your inbox every morning. All you need to do is subscribe.

Lace ‘em up. Time for the Morning Skate.

★★★

WE'LL TAKE THAT BACK, THANK YOU: The Panthers were apparently upset they only got to lead the Atlantic Division for only one day, so they went and snatched it back from the Montreal Canadiens. All thanks to Aleksander Barkov's three-point night.

STAR-STRUCK DOWN: Well, we didn't see that coming. The NHL-leading Dallas Stars visited the mess that is the Columbus Blue Jackets and got blown out, 6-3. It's safe to say the Jackets' exuberance caught the Stars off-guard.

SCORES FOR YOU, SIR:

Bruins 7, Senators 3

Islanders 6, Maple Leafs 3

Devils 3, Hurricanes 2

Blue Jackets 6, Stars 3

Panthers 3, Canadiens 1

Blues 4, Predators 3 (OT)

Jets 4, Red Wings 1

Ducks 1, Flames 0

Kings 5, Oilers 2

Blackhawks 7, Coyotes 2

SOMEBODY PLUG THAT LEAK: Arizona’s goalies couldn’t stop anything last night.

NEITHER COULD ANYONE ELSE: Goals came fast and furious on Tuesday.

PENS' GETTIN' HEALTHY: Kris Letang and Marc-Andre Fleury are both back at practice in Pittsburgh.

WRONG NET, BUDDY: A Polish league goalie offers the worst own goal in hockey history.

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS: Jimmy Hayes got his first hat trick for the Bruins, but Brad Marchand could be suspended for the Winter Classic.

SAVVY MARC BERGEVIN: Here’s why the Ben Scrivens trade is yet another shrewd move by the Habs’ GM.

TIME FOR A DEMOTION: Silver Seven takes a closer look at Zack Smith’s scoring this season.

YOU GET A GOAL, AND YOU GET A GOAL: Eight different Islanders scored on the Leafs last night.

CLIPPED WINGS: Detroit suffered what could be their worst loss of the season in Winnipeg.
