Brandon Prust ejected for blatantly spearing Brad Marchand in the groin

This was slightly uncalled for.

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

You just knew the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins would engage in some sort of shenanigans on Saturday. You probably didn't expect the line to get crossed so egregiously, however.

The two teams have been bitter foes ever since the Bruins beat the Canucks in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011 on Vancouver ice. Personal rivalries abound between the two clubs, but it's pretty understood the Canucks do not like Bruins forward Brad Marchand. And he paid for it, whether he deserved it or not, on Saturday.

Late in the third period, with the Canucks trailing 4-0 with under a minute remaining, Canucks forward Brandon Prust did this very mean thing to Marchand out of nowhere.

Pardon the speculative editorializing here, but that’s probably worth a suspension, if not a hefty fine. Prust was immediately tossed from the game, and Marchand remained on the ice in serious pain for a good few minutes before skating to the bench.
