Keith Yandle springs Carl Hagelin with perfect pass, Rangers take early lead

Yandle threaded the needle, Hagelin fired a heavy shot and the Blueshirts broke a scoreless tie.

The New York Rangers paid a hefty price to acquire Keith Yandle at the trade deadline. When one watches him play or looks at his numbers, it's easy to understand why.

The former Arizona Coyote led all NHL defensemen in regular season assists (46), and during the first period of Wednesday's crucial playoff bout against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he may have executed his most impressive helper yet.

With the first-round series knotted at 1-1, Yandle helped the Rangers take an early lead in Game 3 by firing a gorgeous pass to Carl Hagelin, who split two Penguins, skated to the slot and fire the puck by Marc-Andre Fleury. 1-0 New York.

Hagelin appeared to be calling for the pass, and Yandle couldn’t have served it up any better.
