The Detroit Red Wings got their playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning started off on the right foot on Thursday, winning in Tampa Bay and going up 1-0 on the series. But stealing both games on the road evaded them as the Lightning responded with a dominant 5-1 victory in Game 2 on Saturday.

The Red Wings were lucky to escape Tampa Bay with the series at one game apiece. How will they fare at home?

The series moves to Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday. Detroit lost the season series against Tampa Bay, losing both regular season games on the road but taking the most recent at home, a 4-0 shutout on March 28. But momentum is in Tampa Bay’s favor, especially given that they mostly outplayed the Red Wings in the aforementioned opener on Thursday.
That game ended with a plus-32 shot differential in favor of Tampa Bay -- if there was ever one game to point to for an example of “stealing one,” it’s that one. Whatever the case, Detroit should consider the series a success thus far, given Tampa Bay’s success at home during the regular season, with 21 wins in their final 25 games and 65 points at home.
Tampa Bay has home-ice advantage for the series, so if it runs seven games, the final game will be played there. But that’s a long way off. First up is Game 3 on Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET and broadcast on NBCSN. Online streaming will be provided by NBC Live Extra.
