Ryan Reaves injures Jets player with hit to the head

Mathieu Perreault had to leave the game after the hit.

Ryan Reaves has a reputation as a heavy hitter in the NHL, but the St. Louis Blues winger may have crossed a line with his hit against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

Jets center Mathieu Perreault was skating up the boards in the second period when Reaves launched himself at him, aiming for a high hit. At first it looked like Reaves would completely cross-check him in the face, but Perreault managed to avoid most of the blow.

Reaves’ hand did make contact with Perreault head, which sent Perreault woozily to the locker room.

It hasn't been a comfortable season for Perreault. After starting the year on a splendid points pace, Perreault missed seven weeks with an injury after getting hit by then-Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry.
