Derek Stepan scored in overtime to lift the New York Rangers over the Washington Capitals 2-1 in Game 7 from Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, sending New York to the Eastern Conference Finals.

At one point in time, it looked like Wednesday was going to be a very good night for Washington D.C. sports fans. John Wall made his return for the Wizards and had Washington out to an early lead. The Capitals scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead in Game 7 against the Rangers.
Even late in the games, it looked like D.C. sports fans might end the night celebrating. Paul Pierce buried a 3-pointer to give the Wizards an 81-80 lead with less than 10 seconds to play.

Momentum is currently in favor of the Rangers, who stormed back from a 3-1 deficit in the series to force a Game 7 and send the series back to Madison Square Garden one last time. It’s a familiar situation for the team -- the Rangers have earned victories in their last five Game 7 appearances over the last five seasons.
