Henrik Lundqvist makes unreal desperation kick save with the heel of his skate

Save of the year candidate?

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

You might not have noticed, but Henrik Lundqvist is wearing new pads to start the 2016 half of the season. Knowing how superstitious hockey players are, there's probably some voodoo attached to them that will bring the Rangers netminder better luck after his less than ideal start to the 2015-16 season.

After this save, it might be Lundqvist's skates that have the real magic, as the goaltender kept the Rangers tied with the Bruins in the third period, 1-1, thanks to this unreal kick save made out of pure panic.

Lundqvist sacrifices his body by going full belly flop on the save. The netminder is able to make the stop by lifting his right leg just enough that the heel of his skate blade catches the puck and deflects it up harmlessly away from the play.

Changing the pads is fine, just don’t change those skates ever again, Lundqvist.
