Milan Lucic suspended one game for ‘sucker-punching’ Coyotes Connauton

Just right or too weak of a punishment?

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Milan Lucic will sit out one game for the Los Angeles Kings after a "sucker punch" to the head of Kevin Connauton. The altercation occurred during Saturday's game between the Kings and Coyotes in the third period of a tight contest between the two clubs.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety has the breakdown:

During a scramble in front of the net, Connauton clearly takes a slash at Lucic’s wrists in close. The minor penalty Connauton gets is most certainly deserved, yet Lucic takes it a step further by decking the Coyotes defenseman in the face with an unnecessary blow.

Lucic was hit with a two minute roughing minor and a game misconduct penalty and was not pleased with the refereeing after the match.

The suspension is Lucic’s third and he will forfeit upward of $32,200 with the suspension.
