A scary scene unfolded in Vancouver on Thursday night, when Coyotes forward Brad Richardson was involved in an awkward collision in the middle of the second period.

Brad Richardson had to be taken off the ice in what looked like serious pain.

Here’s a different angle with a bit clearer video, though from a higher vantage point.
It’s a freaky play, and the collision with Canucks defenseman Nikita Tryamkin is by all means an accident. Richardson falls backward with all his weight on his right leg, bending in a way that is not healthy.
Trainers and medical staff members from both teams came out to assist Richardson, who needed a stretcher to leave the ice.

The Coyotes forward was down on the ice for a few long moments before the stretcher was brought out and trainers were able to elevate his leg.
Update: It’s a broken fibula and tibia for Richardson, per the Coyotes.
