A hat trick was only a matter of time for Connor McDavid. For a player that’s expected to be a candidate for the Hart Trophy this year, you knew it was coming. We all knew it was coming.
Connor McDavid ended a 10-game goal drought by scoring his first career hat trick
This is one way to break out of a slump.

Especially considering that, before Saturday night, McDavid hadn’t scored in 10 straight games, three games north of his career long goal scoring drought. And what a way to break out of a scoring slump — with the first hat trick of his career.
You can probably add an assist to John Klingberg of the Stars on the first goal, as he ultimately tapped in McDavid’s first goal into his own net.
The next two goals though are all made by McDavid. First, a great keep in on a puck that was headed out of the zone continued the cycle for the Oilers. McDavid was left with a wide open net from his side of the cage to bang home his second of the night.
The third? A classic case of McDavid’s speed causing problems for the defense. He even over-skated the puck on the play, but it was thankfully picked up by Jesse Puljujarvi before he assisted on the final goal of McDavid’s hat trick.
All in a night’s work for McDavid with many more to come in the future.
