Henrik Lundqvist is having an off day. The normally stalwart goaltender for the Rangers made one of the most uncharacteristic plays he’s ever made. That’s right, Lundqvist allowed a goal 18 seconds in — from center ice.

The King had some bad puck luck.

This goal by Sabres forward Johan Larsson is one part mental lapse by Lundqvist and another part bad luck for the Rangers’ netminder.
As oftentimes with bad goals from behind the blue line, the puck takes quite a bounce. Where Lundqvist was expecting it to be an easy scoop, the puck jumped right over his shoulder, off the post, and into the net. Larsson was a very lucky participant here, as his teammate Jake McCabe shot the puck that deflected off the forward and sent it on that crazy trajectory.
Here’s a better angle of the puck just barely squeaking by after hitting off the inside of the post.
Since allowing the goal, Lundqvist has been perfect in net through the first period.
