Kris Letang rocked David Pastrnak with an elbow to the face

Is supplemental discipline coming to the Penguins’ defenseman?

If precedent is any indication, Kris Letang could be in a bit of hot water. If you recall, the Penguins’ defenseman was suspended back in May for getting an elbow up on the head of Marcus Johansson in the playoffs last year.

Fast forward to mid-December, and the Penguins defenseman gifted the Boston Bruins with a 5-on-3 power play — that they weren’t able to do anything with — after this hit to the head of David Pastrnak.

Letang got a two minute interference penalty moments after the Bruins started a late power play in the first period, giving Boston a two-man advantage. The referees on the ice called it correctly, as Letang got Pastrnak with an elbow to the face.

Yet, considering Letang’s history, will supplemental discipline be coming?

It’s hard to say, but considering Letang got one game during a heated playoff race and that Pastrnak was uninjured on the play, the Department of Player Safety will likely pass due to the sufficiency of the punishment on the ice.

Regardless, Letang wasn’t pleased with the call.
